David Whittemore, 38 of Winchester, says he hasn’t even started his Christmas shopping yet. That’s all about to change after receiving a phone call from the Kentucky Lottery informing him he was the grand prize winner of the Cold Hard Cash drawing held December 8.
Whittemore, who is employed at Glenn Nissan in Lexington, was working on a car in the service area when he got the news. “My boss is in a meeting but I will be there as soon as he gets out,” Whittemore told lottery officials.
Since Whittemore entered the promotion via the Internet he first had to go home to Winchester to get the ticket that was entered in order to present it at lottery headquarters.
“I knew the drawing was today but it still caught me by surprise when I got the call,” Whittemore said. “This couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said.
After taxes, Whittemore received $86,250. Besides using his winnings towards Christmas gifts, Whittemore plans to start the New Year off debt free and may get a new vehicle.
The Kentucky Lottery received 121,048 entries for this drawing. Players could either mail-in or enter their non-winning $10 Cold Hard Cash scratch-off tickets via the Internet for a chance to win.
The next Ultimate Second Chance drawing is scheduled to take place on January 11. Players can enter their non-winning $20 Maximum Money scratch-off tickets for a chance to win the game’s top prize of $175,000. For more information on the Ultimate Second Chance drawings, go to www.kylottery.com.
