Witnesses help man badly injured in motorcycle crash

A man had to be flown to the hospital after a motorcycle crash in Clark County Wednesday morning.

The accident happened just after 11 a.m. on Ironworks Road, at Schollsville Road, east of Winchester.

Emergency crews say the 31-year-old driver of the motorcycle lost control, then slid underneath a trailer, being pulled by an SUV, that had made a stop at the intersection.

Emergency crews say the motorcycle driver suffered leg and head injuries.

"He pulled himself out of underneath it (the trailer)," Bessie Miller, who came to the man's aid after the crash, said. "I didn't realize his leg was gone until he did that."

Miller says she tried to do whatever she could for the man while witnesses waited for help to arrive.

He was airlifted to UK Hospital, but we're told his injuries are non-life threatening.

"Luckily he was completely awake, alert, oriented, knew where he was at, and what was going on," Major Sam Byrd of the Winchester Fire Department said.

Police say the man was not wearing a helmet.
