LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A huge disruption in downtown Lexington on New Year’s Eve has been cleared by police.

Just before 8 p.m., police evacuated a large area, including half a dozen blocks, and several bars.

We had multiple reports that police were looking at an RV parked in a lot at W. Short St. and Market.

Police said in a tweet an officer noticed the large RV. An explosives detection canine was brought in, and it “alerted” to the vehicle.

The police department’s Hazardous Devices Unit responded to the scene. Police say they made contact with the driver of the RV and no explosives were found.

“Public safety is one of my top priorities, and the events downtown tonight remind us just how important it is. In our City, a well trained, diligent police force protects us,” Mayor Linda Gorton said in a statement. “Thanks to our officers.”

We’re still working to gather more information.
