Sheriff: shooting suspect in Bell County in custody

KETTLE ISLAND, Ky. (WYMT) - Deputies say 23-year-old Devonterious Williams Grigsby of Flatlick is in custody in connection with the shooting.

Grigsby claims he was in the area looking for a stolen vehicle belonging to his girlfriend’s mother when he says one of the victims began saying racial slurs.

He also says another person had a weapon, so he exited his car and began firing at them.

Grigsby was taken to the Bell County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.

Deputies with the Bell County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that a shooting investigation was underway.

They say it happened Tuesday in the Kettle Island Community off of Highway 221.

Police estimate that the shooting happened around 12:40 p.m.

They add that the shooter had left the scene by the time they arrived.

There is no additional information on the shooter or the vehicle he drove off in at this time. The victim’s condition is also unknown at this time.

The Bell County Sheriff’s Department is being assisted by the Bell County EMS and Kentucky State Police.
