BOONE COUNTY, Ky. (FOX19) - A man is dead, and another is under arrest in a shooting in northern Kentucky Thursday morning.
Tommy Hightower, 32, of Jasper, Alabama, is charged with the murder of 36-year-old Girlis Serratt, also from Alabama, Boone County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Phil Ridgell said.
Hightower and Serratt decided to stop in the Tri-State sometime recently while driving to Michigan.
The men decided to stay in the area and try to find work, Lt. Ridgell said.
Before Thursday’s shooting, the two began arguing because Hightower wanted to stay in the Tri-State and Serratt wanted to go back to Alabama.
Dispatchers received a 911 call from Hightower saying he had shot his passenger on Verona Mudlick Road about 8:30 a.m., Lt. Ridgell said.
Dispatchers guided the vehicle to a nearby Shell gas station off Verona Mudlick Road to meet first responders.
Deputies said Hightower immediately complied and was taken into custody.
Serratt was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
