Mother, four children killed in Lexington head-on crash laid to rest in Owen County
OWEN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Five members of an Owen County family killed in a wrong-way crash in Lexington were laid to rest on Thursday.
Catherine Greene and her four children died in the head-on crash on I-75.
The community has come together to support the family through this tragedy, and at Thursday’s visitation, several first responders who were at the crash on Saturday were there to pay their respects.
“I think it was very important for all these guys that were on scene that day to come out here and show their support and be with the families and friends of this town,” Lexington Police Sgt. Bryan Jared said.
Greene and her sons, 5-year-old Brayden, 2-year-old Jack, and her stepdaughters, 11-year-old Santanna and 9-year-old Karmen were buried Thursday. They leave behind a father and husband who is dealing with unimaginable loss.
“As much grief and heartache as these families are going through, I think they felt it would be best for them as well to come and share the same with them. To be here today on this tragic loss that they’ve experienced here,” Sgt. Jared said.
The days since haven’t been easy for the people who responded to the scene. Sgt. Jared said it’s been a little easier to cope around those who were out there that day.
“These guys see a lot of things from their day-to-day, month-to-month. Over the years of my career. This one has really rattled them pretty good,” Sgt. Jared said.
The woman police say hit that family, Jamaica Caudill, was also laid to rest today in Rowan County. She leaves behind two children, two stepchildren, and a fiancé.
