LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Tom Pelissero of NFL Network broke the story saying the University of Kentucky is hiring San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello as the Wildcats’ new offensive coordinator.

Scangarello will replace Liam Coen who was hired by the Rams as their new OC after one season at Kentucky.

As for Scangarello, he has quite the NFL resume’ with stops with the Raiders, Eagles, Falcons, Broncos and twice with the Niners. Scangarello was with San Francisco as QB coach in 2017-18 and then again in 2021. The Los Angeles native was the Broncos’ offensive coordinator in 2019.

Kentucky is coming off a year where the Wildcats won the Citrus Bowl after reconstructing their offense under Coen using a lethal passing game not seen in Lexington in years.

UK also grabbed another 49er coach a few weeks ago with the hiring of Zach Yenser as offensive line coach.

Pete Thamel of ESPN says Scangarello’s contract is a 3-year deal. No monetary value was given.
