LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky’s state of emergency for COVID-19 is officially over.

Still, health experts say COVID-19 isn’t gone. In fact, officials say there’s the chance we could see cases begin to rise again as the year goes on.

Wild Health officials say that they’re opening up a new testing option to try and make getting tested more convenient. You can now get a COVID-19 test in the comfort of your own home.

Nicole Merz with Wild Health says that the new service will be great for people who may not be able to drive to a COVID testing site, especially, as more and more of the sites shut down.

“Everything comes to you these days, your groceries come to you, your food comes to you, you can even get someone to pick up something at Walgreens for you and bring it to your house,” Merz said. “We’ll come to you. You just sign up the same way you do to get one of your tests here. We are offering it with the help of your insurance company, so we take that information and make sure that we can continue to provide the service to the community that we still need.”

Merz says, while cases are dropping significantly after the omicron spike, research suggests we could see cases begin to go up again in April as more families start traveling and life becomes more normal again.

She says continuing to test and making sure that testing is available to everyone will be vital in keeping cases down and people healthy.

“Our numbers are decreasing but we want to keep them that way,” Merz said. “We want to make sure that it’s as convenient as possible for our community.”
