OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - Habitat for Humanity broke ground on a new affordable housing project on the block of Center and Hathaway streets in Owensboro.

The initiative is expected to provide safe, low-cost housing for 15 families.

One future homeowner, Erica Carbon, said the project will give her family a permanent place to live and the chance to own a home for the first time.

“I’m excited - being a first-time homeowner, and something that will be mine. Something that I can do whatever I want to it. If I want to paint it, I can paint it. I don’t have to ask anybody,” Carbon said. “My girls will have their own rooms. They can make it theirs. But this is a blessing, a blessing for me to have my forever home.”

The neighborhood will be called Clemmie Wolf Commons, named after a local figure who stepped up and helped those in need.
