With the holiday season approaching Lextran is gearing up for their season of giving back to the Lexington community.

Each year Lextran provides free rides on Election Day which kicks off a series of customer appreciation days and events lasting through the end of the year. The transit system offered fare-free service on November 5, which saw 46 percent voter turnout in Fayette County.

Also in November, Lextran offers free rides on Thanksgiving Day as a simple thank you. These free rides increase access to community meals around the city.

“Our series of free rides and events during the holidays is a way for us to say thank you to our riders and the community at large for their support throughout the year,” said Carrie Butler, Lextran General Manager.

In December, Lextran partners with the Salvation Army to “Stuff the Bus.” Lextran and Salvation Army arrange for a bus to pick up sizeable Angel Tree donations from local businesses. By the end of the event the bus is typically full from floor to ceiling with everything from bicycles to action figures.

Lextran continues embracing the holiday season by joining other community partners and businesses in the Downtown Lexington Christmas Parade slated to take place this year on December 7 at 11:00 a.m.

The most popular customer appreciation event comes on December 17 when Lextran provides free rides to and through the Southern Lights Festival at the Kentucky Horse Park. This year the bus will depart the Transit Center at 6:45 p.m.

The final event of the year is Free Rides with Santa. Santa will use Lextran to get around the city on December 20. If you board your bus and Santa is there, your ride is free.
