The Jackson County Coroner has confirmed that two people are dead in an early New Year's Day crash in Jackson County.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on US 421, at the intersection or Kentucky Highway 3447, also known as Morrill-Kerby Knob Road, which is just south of the Madison County line.
According to the coroner, a woman driving an SUV lost control of her vehicle, hitting a car head-on.
The coroner says the two men in the car, 58-year-old Lloyd Sparks, and his nephew, 51-year-old Randall Sparks, of Madison County, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman driving the car, as well as a 10-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car, were taken to the hospital.
Police say the driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital.
Officials say alcohol may be a factor in the crash.
Both roads were closed for several hours, but reopened around 8 a.m.
