LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Twenty-seven children in Lexington received beds for the very first time Saturday morning, thanks to Calvary Baptist Church.
For a year and a half now, the church on High Street has been building and distributing beds for children in need around the Lexington area.
The event started after a teacher that attended the church noticed some of her students didn't have their own beds to sleep in.
Since the start of their mission Calvary Baptist has been able to provide beds for nearly 80 children in Lexington and church members who help with the event say they hope they can inspire more groups to do the same.
"I know that we can’t provide all the outreach for the community, but we love to have partners, we’d love to encourage other organizations, other churches, to put on their own type of program to help their community", said Charlie Edgington, a member at Calvary Baptist.
Officials say they could always use more help. If you would like to get involved, you can call their church at (859)254-3491.
