Arrest made in string of Nelson Co. car thefts

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WKYT) – An investigation into a series of car thefts in Nelson County has yielded an arrest.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff, deputies were able to track down a suspect on Nelsonville Road traveling in a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

After a short pursuit, the driver of the stolen vehicle, 24-year-old Evan J. Lyons of Bardstown, ran off the road and into a pond. Deputies say Lyons got out of the vehicle and tried to run away on foot, but was apprehended and arrested.

Lyons is charged with receiving stolen property, reckless driving, fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance, among other violations. Additionally, Lyons had 2 outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The sheriff says the investigation is continuing, and he expects additional charges in the case.
