BEIJING (AP) - China's stock market benchmark has plunged 5.5 percent and other Asian markets are off sharply after the Dow Jones industrials on Wall Street plummeted more than 1,000 points.
Asian markets on Friday followed Wall Street down as fearful U.S. investors pulled out of the market, sending the Dow into "correction" territory for the first time in two years.
The Shanghai Composite Index lost 5.5 percent. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 was off 3.2 percent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 4 percent. Market benchmarks in Australia, South Korea and Southeast Asia also retreated.
