LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Blue Bell Creameries is weeks away from once again distributing its ice cream products to store shelves throughout Kentucky.
The company says its return to Kentucky is the latest step in its slow re-entry to markets it was once in before a massive April 2015 recall of all its products because some of its ice cream tested positive for listeriosis.
The contamination was linked to multiple deaths and illnesses.
The company has been able to rebound incrementally since the recall, as it is about to be available in 23 states. Kentucky, Indiana and New Mexico are among the latest states in the company's expansion.
Blue Bell will distribute its products to Corbin, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, Henderson, La Grange, Leitchfield, Lexington, London, Louisville, Morehead, Mt. Sterling, Owensboro, Princeton, Richmond, Shelbyville and Somerset. It has not released store locations.
Blue Bell says it is still expecting to enter these markets beginning Mar. 12. It will also reopen its La Grange distribution facility as a part of this announcement.
