MANCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - The Clay County Sheriff's Office says a man ended up dead after showing up at his ex-girlfriend's home overnight.

Investigators say 40-year-old Matthew Caldwell shot and killed 34-year-old Jody Sevier at the home on Hwy 2467, about 15 miles south of Manchester.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday after Sevier showed up
at his ex-girlfriend's house.

According to state police, their preliminary investigation shows that Caldwell shot the man during an argument.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office says just a couple weeks ago they were called Sevier's home, after receiving a domestic disturbance call involving his ex-girlfriend and her child.

Neighbors say they are still in shock that something like this could happen so close to home.

Police have not made an arrest in the case. State Police say they will present their findings to the Clay County Grand Jury once the investigation is complete.
