City taking steps towards the demolition of Jefferson Street Bridge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- The City of Lexington is one step closer to taking control of a bridge in Downtown Lexington.

A council committee agreed Tuesday to take control of the Jefferson Street Bridge as part of a road swap with the state.

The herald-leader reports the move will clear the way for the city to tear down the bridge and allow expansion of the Lexington Convention Center and the construction of Town Branch park.

The full council still must vote on the road transfer with the state.
