LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Crews respond to an early morning house fire Wednesday in Lexington.
The home on Derby Landing Circle off Harrodsburg Road near Kerr Brothers Funeral Home caught on fire around 5:45 a.m.
Crews were on scene within two minutes. They arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from a two-story house.
A firefighter told WKYT's Matthew Rand two people were inside the home at the time of the fire. Both made it safely out of the home.
"They were actually the ones that noticed the fire early on. They called 911, and safety evacuated," noted Battalion Chief Brad Whittaker. "You've got a multi-story house with vaulted ceilings, and it started toward the rear of the house. Looks like it may have even been on the exterior and got up in the roofing. A lot of the fire was in the roof area, as opposed to on the interior of the house, those are always tougher to run down and cut off, as opposed to one that starts in the interior."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
