Crews making progress on cleanup of Pike County train derailment

PIKE CO., Ky. (WKYT) - Crews in Pike County are making progress cleaning up after a train derailment last week.

All tank cars and locomotives are being held at the staging site and are going through a cleaning process before removal.

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet says all the tank cars had to be emptied of remaining ethanol so they could be removed from the accident site.

Crews have also removed all the contaminaed soil and they now getting ready to work on repairing the tracks.

The derailment happened Thursday. Officials say the train hit a rockslide, went off the tracks and caught fire.

Two people were hurt, but are okay.
