BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (AP/WKYT) - A boat capsized and killed a 16-year-old boy in Bourbon County Friday night, resulting in the arrest of another man on board.
Crews responded to the scene on Stoner Creek off of Spears Mill Road late Friday.
Bourbon County Sheriff Mark Matthews said it appeared a boat went over a dam around 10 p.m.
Kentucky State Police identify the victim as 16-year-old Thomas Lane Minnick.
The driver of the boat, Jacob Mason, and two other teens were rescued.
State Police arrested Mason early Saturday on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Trooper David Jones says alcohol is a suspected factor. Jones says Mason was found holding onto the boat before he was pulled from the creek.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating.
School leaders tell us Minnick was a member of the Bourbon County High School Band. There will be a vigil to remember his Saturday at 6 in the high school gym. As the vigil will be held inside, officials are asking that people to not bring candles.
Band leaders confirm a fundraising page has been set up for Thomas Lane's family.
