The Kentucky Division of Forestry is saying that crews are fighting at least 20 different forest fires spread over 11,000 acres as of Monday.

The largest of the fires continue to be in Harlan and Letcher counties, as well as Pike.

Five fires though were contained on on Sunday.

However a new fire popped up on Friday in Breathitt County, which is not contained and around 2,500 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service also says that a fire has popped up in Powell County. The 25 acre fire is in the Red River Gorge on the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The national guard is set to send out helicopters to drop water over the smaller fires. This will be to ensure that the fires do not turn in to larger ones.
