LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman faces charges following a deadly overnight crash in Lexington.
Around 12:30 Friday morning, a pickup headed inbound on Athens Boonesboro Road was t-boned by a car that was crossing Athens Boonesboro from Hays Boulevard, police said.
The truck flipped on impact, and the driver was ejected, police said. He died on scene.
The Fayette County Coroner's office identified the victim as Robert Spencer Hatler, 23, of Lexington. He was the only person in that truck.
Police arrested the other driver, Alexandria Rankin, 24, at the scene. Rankin is charged with manslaughter and DUI.
According to court documents, Rankin admitted to police that she drank alcohol before she got into her car. Police say she failed multiple field sobriety tests at the scene, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.
At least one witness told police Rankin ran a red light before hitting Hatler's car.
Because of the investigation, Athens Boonesboro was closed for several hours. Police reopened both lanes around 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
Hatler is a 2012 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. He attended Transylvania University for about two years and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Hatler's friends tell us he works for his family's business. Friends say Hatler volunteered to work a double shift on Thursday and was heading home when the crash happened.
