Coroner says Richmond woman died from gunshot wound to the head
Richmond Police are investigating a death at an apartment on Villa Drive.
The Madison County Coroner says investigators found Tammy Masters Alexander, 52, dead from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police were on scene until 4:30 Thursday morning. Investigators told WKYT's Matthew Rand that her death appeared suspicious.
Neighbors told WKYT's Caitlin Centner that they discovered Alexander's body. Sheila Thacker said she became concerned after seeing Alexander's dog, Buddy, running loose. Thacker says she knocked on the door of Alexander's apartment numerous times and then decided to go check on her.
"My son got down in her face and one of the neighbors said 'come on she's done gone. We've got to go. We've got to get the authorities,'" Thacker recalled.
The neighbors say it appeared Alexander had a gunshot wound. They also said they saw a gun near the body.
"In this tight-knit community, we want to know this wasn't no accident. Something was up, somewhere. There's children in here that worry about her. "
The coroner says he's confident Alexander had been dead for several hours.
Alexander's family has set up an
to raise money for her son, Joshua.
