MIDDLE FORK, Ky. (WKYT/WYMT) – A Leslie County deputy, injured and flown from the scene of a shooting, is now being treated at UK Hospital.
While investigating, the deputy stopped a truck with three people inside along Middle Fork Creek. Kentucky State Troopers say during the traffic stop, tensions escalated and gunfire was exchanged.
It is unknown at this time who fired the shots, but one of the bullets struck the deputy and another hit one of the other three people.
The deputy was airlifted away from the scene to UK Hospital. Two people were taken into custody, with one taken to the hospital. A third suspect, Tyler France, escaped capture at the scene but was later taken into custody.
In a tweet Saturday afternoon, Governor Andy Beshear wrote "Britainy and I are praying for the deputy shot this morning in Leslie County.
Thank you to the men and women in law enforcement who put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our families."
