Doctors warn of health hazards that come with extreme cold

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Doctors are warning of the hazards that come with the harsh cold weather that has made its way into the Bluegrass.

"When we're talking about temps in the single digits, people can suffer cold-related injuries in a very short amount of time," says Dr. Ryan Stanton, an emergency room physician.

Stanton says to protect your body from the elements, bundling up and wearing layers is pivotal to your safety. He says cold weather can also create confusion that can create a dangerous scenario with the weather continuing to get colder and colder.

"The altered metal staus or confusion is a huge issue because it can hinder a person's ability to recognize the risk, or take actions for treatment."
