RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Eastern Kentucky University president Michael Benson is one of three finalists for the same position at College of Charleston in South Carolina.

Benson became the university's 13th president in August 2013. He was previously the president of Southern Utah University and Snow College. He attended Brigham Young University for his undergraduate degree before receiving a master's at Notre Dame and a doctorate at the University of Oxford.

During his time at EKU, Benson has overseen building projects and facility upgrades along with budget cuts. In one case, the Marching Colonels were at risk of being eliminated, but the program received enough funding to continue.

The other two finalists for the position in Charleston are Andrew T. Hsu of the University of Toledo and Rhonda Phillips of Purdue.
