ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Elwood Caudill has won the Democratic Party nomination for Rowan County Clerk to set up the high-profile with incumbent Kim Davis.

The Associated Press called the race for Caudill, as he defeated well-funded challenger David Ermold, a gay man who was denied a marriage license from Davis in 2015 as part of a story which gained national attention.

Davis, who was once a Democrat, switched to the Republican Party where she ran unopposed.

Caudill was receiving more than half the vote with half the precincts reporting before the AP called the race.
