Family members told WKYT she was pregnant at the time of the crash.
"This little girl, who was due in December, we were naming her Paizley, and so she was over the roof. She was a proud momma," said Rhonda Hamm, McCoy's aunt.
The crash occurred Thursday morning on Winchester Road. The car McCoy was in and another vehicle collided head-on. Two others were transported to the hospital with injuries.
Hamm said McCoy was the mother of a 14-year-old boy and had lost a daughter to SIDS ten years ago, an experience Hamm believes sent McCoy down a bad road.
Hamm said McCoy had completed a substance abuse program at the Chrysalis House in Lexington and was 1.5 years sober.
"We didn't think that, you know, of all the people that she would be the one that would conquer the demon and make a 360 in her life, but she was," Hamm said. "I'm in awe of her."
With her whole life ahead of her, Hamm said more than anything, her niece was looking forward to being a new mom again. Family members were planning a baby shower for her at the end of the month.
"She just wanted a magical baby shower, that's what she called it. She was elated. And it was a girl and that's all she wanted was another girl," Hamm said.
Family members have set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses for McCoy and her unborn daughter.
