The Fayette County Health Department says the flu has caused five deaths in Lexington.
Kevin Hall with the health department says the deaths occurred in elderly people and one person in their 30's. He says they all had other health complications at the time of their deaths but the flu was ultimately the cause.
Officials say the time when they see peak numbers of flu is in late January and early February.
Many pharmacies across the state still offer flu shots.
