Lexington firefighters are at the scene of a fire near the Lexington Distillery District on Manchester Street.

The fire is in a quarry, and it caused the closure of several roads in the area, including portions of Manchester Street, Forbes Road and Old Frankfort Pike. The roads have since reopened.

Crews say a truck was carrying routine explosives when it caught fire 600 feet below ground. The quarry was evacuated, and firefighters are allowing the vehicle to burn out on its own.

Vulcan Materials is the owner of the property where the quarry is located. The company released a statement on the fire.

“At approximately 2 p.m. local time (Eastern), a fire was reported involving a piece of mobile equipment at our Central Underground Mine in Lexington, Kentucky. All personnel are accounted for. First responders are on scene. This is all the information we have at this time," the company said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
