WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Firefighters in Whitley County have been busy battling a string of fires that have overtaken at least five homes and buildings.
Investigators say this recent uptick in fires is suspicious because none of the homes were being occupied at the times of the fires. All of the fires have started in the early hours of the morning, according to fire officials.
"I don't know who is doing it. I'd like to find out,” said Whitley County resident Oscar Veach.
Veach is just one of the people affected by this string of damaging fires. He owned a home KY-1064 that recently destroyed by fire.
Veach said his grandmother left him the home, and that it was like part of the family.
Investigators say the fire that hit Veach’s soon-to-be home is one of the five suspected arsons in the county.
One of the suspicious fires started at about 2 a.m. morning inside Corbin city limits, and the others broke out around 5 a.m., according to fire officials.
This harsh reality has left Veach simply wondering why someone would do something like this to his home.
“A bunch of thugs running around destroying people's property. They have nothing and don't want anyone else to have anything either,” said Veach.
