LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police have arrested a former Scott County deputy on a shoplifting charge.

Jail records show Silas Whitehead, 42, was arrested Monday and charged with shoplifting $638.46 worth of merchandise at a Walmart on New Circle Road from Feb. 23 - May 1.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office confirms Whitehead served as a deputy from 2017 until May 6, 2019. Deputies didn't say why Whitehead was no longer working for the sheriff's office.

Whitehead's arrest citation listed him as unemployed.

WYMT reports Whitehead worked for the Cumberland Police Department and the Harlan County Sheriff's Office before joining the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Whitehead is due in court on Tuesday.
