LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Blue Grass Council of the Boy Scouts of America recognized WKYT's Sam Dick with the Distinguished Citizen Award Friday night.

WKYT's Sam Dick honored with Distinguished Citizen Award from Boy Scouts of America Blue Grass Council.

It was part of the organization's Be Prepared Gala that raises money for the Boy Scouts.

According to Scout Law, a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

The Boy Scouts felt that Dick personified those qualities, earning him the Distinguished Citizen Award.

"Scouting teaches you to ask questions to get new information," said Dick on earning the award. "That's what you do as a scout, as a broadcaster, [and] as a journalist."

Dick earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1971.

WKYT sponsored the Be Prepared Gala and our Amber Philpott emceed the event.
