The funeral for Lexington Police Detective Phillip Harrison will be held Friday.

He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The Lexington Police Department confirmed Harrison died Wednesday morning while in hospice care at St. Joseph Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Jana, and a 12-year-old daughter.

Detective Harrison was a 19-year veteran of the department.

"The one thing that I can tell you and that Philip would tell you is that we have to do our duty. And that is to protect the people that need our assistance. He would be lining up if he was here today. He would be here then he would be right out on the street serving our community," Chief Mark Barnard said.

Funeral services for Detective Harrison will be held at Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road. Visitation began at 10 a.m. and the funeral will follow at 2 p.m. He will be interred at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens on Harrodsburg Road.

Harrison's family is asking for memorial contributions to be directed to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
