A Lexington home is damaged after an early morning fire on Tuesday.

Fire crews say the garage of a home on Westminster Drive, near Versailles Road, caught fire just before 3 a.m.

Officials say residents were outside the house when the arrived, and no one was injured. A family member living in the home told WKYT that two pet cats were able to make it out safely as well.

The fire destroyed the building's garage, firefighters say siding of the house is damaged, but the main house was spared. A car also has minor damage.

"There is some smoke from a broken window. Crews arrived on scene to an attached garage that did have some fire showing through it," Major Chris Burke said.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.

Firefighters also say statistically, this is the busiest time of year for them. They're reminding people that they can get a free smoke detector or inspection by contacting the department.
