Georgetown continues fundraising efforts for Deputy Morales

Scott County residents continue to show their support for injured sheriff's deputy Jaime Morales, who was shot on the job several weeks ago. Morales was in critical condition for some time and later learned the injuries left him 90 percent paralyzed.

WKYT has shared information about various fundraisers since the incident, with the latest happening Sunday afternoon.

"Jaime has been family for us. He's been coming into the salon and so does his mother, and his brother, and so we kind of got a little attached to them," said Susann Hardin, who hosted a hair-cut event to benefit Morales.

Hardin says Sunday's fundraiser is personal for her and her staff at the Enfinity salon that Hardin owns.

"Everybody knows him. That's why everybody's coming together. If he wasn't so nice and so well known, for being such a good guy, nobody would do what we're doing," explained Hardin.

The salon raised hundreds of dollars for Morales by offering haircuts in exchange for donations. While their effort is just the latest in a long line of community initiatives, Hardin says it's important to keep the momentum going.

"Jaime is a super strong guy. He's super-willed. He's so funny and so great to be around that we need him here for our community," said Hardin.

So far, money is expected to help Morales pay bills while he recovers, and afford new necessities like a wheelchair and accessible vehicle.

Scott County residents are also selling t-shirts to help. The Enfinity salon says they still have those in stock and are available throughout the week.
