'Go, go. She is dead': Deputies say Franklin County murder accomplice drove getaway vehicle

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Franklin County authorities say a man is charged with complicity to murder and tampering with physical evidence after driving from a murder scene.

Deputies say Billy Turner drove murder suspect Derek Garten to and from a home on Meadow Glen Drive in Franklin County. This is where investigators say he shot and killed 39-year-old Margaret Elizabeth Smith.

Turner's arrest citation shows he told authorities Garten walked out of the vehicle with a rifle, entered the home and left a few minutes later. Garten told Turner, "Go, go. She is dead," before driving away. He would later drive the vehicle to a road where Garten threw a rifle toward the water. He would then drop Garten off around East Main Street.

Sheriff Pat Melton says they are still looking for Garten. He is in his 30s, and he was last seen driving a Toyota 4Runner with a front vanity plate saying "punisher."

Garten is considered armed and dangerous, and he is also wanted on a terroristic threatening charge.

The victim had an emergency protective order against Garten at the time of her death.
