Jessamine County babysitter sentenced after severely abusing newborn

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - A Jessamine County woman was sentenced to prison after she reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

A judge sentenced Erin Thompson to 15 years in prison for second-degree criminal abuse and first-degree assault after prosecutors say she seriously injured Kylie Jo Sizemore in 2016 while babysitting her.

Thompson was charged after the newborn suffered a skull fracture and brain damage while she was caring for her. She was crying when the judge handed down her sentence.

There were doubts if Sizemore would be able to walk following the abuse, but family members say she has already accomplished that in her recovery. The sentence didn't leave Kylie Jo's mother Natasha satisfied, but she said there was nothing the judge could have done for her to change her view.

"Nothing will ever be enough because we still have to live it, daily," Sizemore said. "The fact that we have to live it daily it’s not enough. I’m still angry every day. Nothing is ever enough."

The family continues to push for laws to better protect children from abusers.
