Jim Caldwell's Forecast | Weekend winter weather threat grows

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Another weak disturbance will move through tonight, but the main attraction is the weekend system.

There is a solid chance that we see a mix of sun & clouds through the day. It will mean that making a run at 40 degrees will be easily accomplished if we get more sun. Clouds will increase late in the day. A weak frontal boundary will move into the region and spark a mix from rain to snow. We might squeeze out some light accumulations from it. Regardless, I think we find some slick spots for early Friday morning.

From Friday through the late evening hours on Saturday... we are fine! I don't see any major issues anywhere in the region. It stays mainly on the dry side until late that night.

Saturday night/Sunday morning will be an interesting period for us. A wintry mix will develop and move into the region. There will be a switch to snow and the trends have been showing accumulation for days. As of this writing, those models are still tracking accumulation in our area. In some cases, a very healthy amount. We are getting closer to the event so the next several runs are critical for the forecast. If the data is going to blink, that happens soon!

We'll stay on top of this event for you.
