Kentucky State Police confirm one man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Whitley County.

Police confirm the shooting happened around 2 a.m. Monday on Highway 1804 in the Saxton community.

Kentucky State Police say they were called to the scene of a possible domestic situation. Troopers say a man was holding his one-year-old child hostage, with a box cutter.

Troopers say when they arrived at the scene, the man, identified as 29-year-old Ronald W. Leach of Jellico, was inside with his son. A trooper entered the man's home and says the man grabbed a weapon. That's when the trooper shot and killed Leach.

Officers say no one else was hurt in the shooting. The child was also unharmed.
