SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WKYT/WLKY) - Kentucky State Police is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Shelby County.
It happened Monday night on Mary Crest Drive in Shelbyville.
Investigators say the officer was performing a welfare check when he spotted a car he was looking for.
That's when the officer opened fired and a woman, who police describe as a suspect, was shot.
The woman, identified as 31-year-old Ashleigh Bertucci from Louisville, a short time later at a Louisville hospital.
"What we do now is we have a critical incident response team," said KSP Trooper Bernis Napier. "We've kind of farmed that out to other agencies to investigate their officer-involved shootings to try to do away with any kind of improprieties."
Investigators have not said yet if Bertucci was armed.
The Shelbyville police officer who shot the suspect was not hurt.
