STEARNS, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police say a man is behind bars accused of murdering his girlfriend's mother in McCreary County.
Larissa Cox was identified as the murder victim in a McCreary County shooting Wednesday night.
Troopers responded to a home on Old State Garage Road in Stearns around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Larissa Cox dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigators say they believe Cox's daughter's boyfriend, 20-year-old Preston Clark, shot her.
Clark was charged with murder and placed in the Leslie County Detention Center.
Cox is being remembered by friends and family, with one family member saying she was universally loved.
"She was fun loving. She loved to have a good time," Mary Singleton said. "She never met a stranger.”
Friends say Clark and his girlfriend just celebrated the arrival of a baby -- a grandchild Cox adored along with her family.
Medical examiners will conduct an autopsy on Cox on Friday.
Kentucky State Police have yet to release a suspected motive, but investigators believe an argument preceded the shooting.
