FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Friends and family said goodbye to Kentucky National Guard soldiers Friday at a farewell ceremony as the soldiers prepare to deploy to the Middle East.

The ceremony was held in the Army Aviation Support Facility at the Boone National Guard Center in Frankfort.

The soldiers of the seven-member fixed-wing unit- Detachment 4, Company C., 2-245th Aviation- will fly C-12 "Huron" airplanes while deployed.

“This unit may be small but the number of family and friends here today are a testament to what they’ll be contributing overseas,” said Lt. Col. Mike Armstrong, 751st Troop Command Battalion Commander. “These are some of the most experienced aviators we’ve ever deployed and will do a fine job representing the Kentucky National Guard.”

This is the fourth deployment for the unit since 2001. They previously deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
