Kentucky teachers win about a third of their elections in state legislature

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - One of the biggest storylines leading up to this year’s general election was the number of teachers running for office in the commonwealth. So here’s the report card.

45 educators had their name on the ballot for races in the state legislature, but only 14 of them came away victorious. All of them landed spots in the State House.

One of the biggest winners last night was Travis Brenda. The Rockcastle County High School teacher handily defeated Democrat Mary Renfro in the 72nd district. Brenda beat incumbent Jonathan Shell, the House Majority Leader, in the primary.
