Six Kmart stores in Kentucky to close in 2017

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Six Kmart stores located in Kentucky will close in 2017.

WKYT has confirmed that Kmart stores in London and Corbin will close next year.

In an email, Howard Riefs with Sears Holdings tells WKYT that the company has made "the difficult, but necessary decision to close" the two stores.

Riefs says the stores will close in mid-April, and their liquidation sales will begin on Jan. 6.

As reported on Tuesday, the Kmart store in Georgetown is also scheduled to close in 2017.

Business Insider reports that 30 Kmart stores across the nation, including six in Kentucky, will close in 2017.

Those six stores are located in:

  • Georgetown

  • London

  • Corbin

  • Owensboro

  • Hopkinsville

  • Bowling Green
