Laurel woman, 95, dies from exposure to cold weather
A 95-year-old woman died Monday morning from exposure to cold weather.
Dorothy McKnight died of exposure Monday morning, according to Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling. McKnight was a resident of Laurel Village on North Mill Street.
Bowling said McKnight walked out of the home at some point, and she was not dressed for the weather. London police are reviewing surveillance to try and determine when she left the assisted living facility. Her body was found around 9 a.m. about 100 yards from the facility.
People who live nearby say it is rare to see Laurel Village residents walking down the sidewalk near their homes on Mill Street. They told WKYT's Garrett Wymer that they wish they would have known someone was, so they could have done something to save her.
London City Police are handling the investigation. Investigators say they believe McKnight had Alzheimer's disease.
