FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - U.S. Congressional candidate and Kentucky State Senator Reggie Thomas (D-13th) pre-filed a bill Tuesday to raise the minimum wage in Kentucky to $15 an hour by 2025.

BR 65 would increase the minimum wage incrementally from $7.25 an hour to $8.20 beginning July 1, 2018. It would then increase to $9.15 in July 2019, $10.10 in 2020, and then to $15 in 2025.

“Kentuckians work hard, and people should be able to make a living wage to help their families,“ Sen. Thomas said when pre-filing the bill.
"Smart companies and forward-thinking cities across America have already started increasing the minimum wage,” he added.

Kentucky's 2018 regular legislative session begins on January 2.

Sen. Thomas is running for Kentucky's sixth district in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. Republican Rep. Andy Barr currently holds the seat.
