Letcher County Man Charged With Assault, DUI Following Head-On Crash

JENKINS, Ky. (WKYT) - A Letcher County man was charged with assault and DUI after a head on crash in Letcher County on Thursday, Aug. 30.

According to Kentucky State Police, 51-year-old John Henry Gibson of Seco, Ky. was traveling south on U.S. 23 in a 2005 Chevrolet when he turned around to avoid a traffic stop.

When he turned around, he began driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado head on.

Gibson and two passengers in his car were injured. They were all transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

59-year-old Tony Kiser, who was driving the Silverado, refused medical treatment and left the scene.

Gibson has been charged with three counts of second-degree assault and second-degree DUI, wreckless driving and several other traffic offenses.

He is being lodged in the Letcher County Detention Center.
