LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lexington-Fayette Health Department is offering free flu shots Tuesday afternoon.
Workers will administer the free shots from 4 - 6:30 p.m. at its Public Health Clinic on Newtown Pike.
The health department recommends flu shots for people 6 months and older. It provided more than 1,000 free flu shots at its October clinic.
"Flu season in Kentucky peaks in February and cases can extend into April and May," says spokesperson Kevin Hall. "It's definitely not too late to get protection from the flu for your entire family."
Flu shots cost $30 during its regular hours of operation Monday-Thursday.
"Since I can't really afford the co-pay this is really convenient. You just don't want to go unprotected. I've heard people have died in three days from having the flu so it's just good to be here," Christina Washington, who attended Tuesday's free flu shot clinic, said.
Lexington has seen a large amount of flu activity this season. Health officials say there have been more than 500 cases and 12 deaths because of the flu.
