Lexington Police are investigating a serious crash that sent two people to the hospital.

The crash happened just before 12:30 a.m. in Lexington. Multiple lanes were shut down for more than four hours after the accident.

Lexington Police say it was a two vehicle collision, where a black car was traveling outbound on Nicholasville Road when a white SUV was hit while turning onto Nicholasville Road from Jesselin Drive.

Lexington police say the driver of the car ran a red light at the intersection before hitting the SUV.

Police say both drivers had to be cut out from their cars and were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

An employee inside a gas station right across the street heard the crash and said it was so loud, he at first thought the car had hit the building.

At last check this morning, police said the man in the SUV was stable and the driver of the car was in critical condition.

Police have not filed any charges in the case, but say early indications show that the car may have been stolen.
